Jakarta, – Starbucks is celebrating its leading position of serving 99% ethically-sourced coffee with its partners (employees) in stores across Indonesia by rolling out many activities during September and customers can enjoy special offer to celebrate the festivity. Starbucks is the largest coffee retailer to have 99% of its coffee supply chain verified as ethically-sourced, working in partnership with Conservation International.

Starbucks mission to inspire and nurture the human spirit extends well beyond its partners (employees) and customers. We take pride in conducting business responsibly and supporting communities where we do business, from seed to cup. Starbucks was the first to set the ethical sourcing standards when it launched in 2004 and since 2015, its coffee has been verified as 99% ethically sourced and became the largest coffee retailer to achieve this milestone. The approach to ethically sourcing its coffee is Coffee and Farmer Equity (C.A.F.E.) Practices, which has helped Starbucks create a long-term supply of high-quality coffee and positively impact the lives of coffee farmers and their communities. C.A.F.E. Practices project economic, social, quality and environmental standards that all Starbucks coffee farmers and suppliers must meet via a third-party verification system.

“It’s 9/9 (9 September) and we’re celebrating that Starbucks coffee is verified 99% ethically sourced. We would like to share some information and the meaning of ‘ethically sourced coffee’ with our customers and to make them feel proud of their sustainable coffee purchases. Partnering with Conservation International, Starbucks applies Coffee and Farmers Equity (C.A.F.E.) Practices, a set of ethical sourcing standards carried out to ensure the supply of high-quality coffee beans, by prioritizing sustainable principles for farmers & community (people), the environment (planet), and Arabica coffee beans (coffee),” explained Andrea Siahaan, senior general manager of corporate pr & communications, PT Sari Coffee Indonesia, Jakarta, Wednesday (9/9/2020).

“It’s not just a celebration of what we have achieved but we are also celebrating the connection between our baristas and customers. We are sharing the aspects of our coffee heritage during this September. Customers will get ‘99%’ on their cups on the 9th September and they are able to find out more about ‘99% ethically sourced coffee’ as partners will decorate a Coffee Corner and update the information on Community Board at their store. Furthermore, customers can also pick up a free bag of used coffee grounds to enrich their gardens and compost for free through Grounds for Your Garden program at some selected stores across Indonesia. As one of the key areas in C.A.F.E. Practices is to manage waste and reduce the environmental impact of its stores, we reactivate this initiative to keep valuable material out of landfills and put it to good use,” Andrea continued.

In addition, to excite our customers on this special day, Starbucks provides a special offer for every purchase of any coffee beverage to get a 99% discount on the second beverage purchase in all stores across Indonesia. (r)
